Listen In: Gary Talks Achievement with Sales Guru Harvey Mackay

With more than 10 million books sold and over fifty years of experience under his belt, Harvey Mackay has plenty to offer in the way of sales advice. And, in his recent interview with Gary Keller on his latest book, The Mackay MBA of Selling in the Real World, he shares insights on reaching your highest potential in both business and life.

Some of our biggest AHAs from Mackay’s time with us were:

1. Everyone is a salesperson—including you. Mackay says, whether they realize it or not, everyone over the age of 12 starts selling from the moment they get up to the moment they go to sleep. “You’re negotiating every minute. You’re communicating every minute. You’re persevering, persuading and influencing people.”

2. Setbacks happen. Understanding setbacks are going to happen helps you learn and move forward, according to Mackay. His mantra? Be a “hungry fighter, hungry fighter, hungry fighter. When something goes wrong, don’t wallow in the failure…analyze your mistakes and learn something from them.”

3. Coaches matter. Mackay knows whatever God-given talent he has that’s it. “I’ve made the decision to have a goal…follow a time and action calendar…try my guts out, and that’s it. After that, I don’t have to worry about anything.” That’s why he has a slew of coaches to help him reach his highest potential in a variety of arenas in any given area.

Aside from sharing these and other insights, we love the fact that Mackay can perform on the spot. Listen what happens when Gary tasks him with reciting all 26 of his ABCs of Selling—and he does it in about 60 seconds. And, feel free to share your own AHAs below!
